Bhagwan Mahaweer : the Penetrating Para-Psychologist

Bhagwan Mahaweer : the Penetrating Parapsychologist

Mahaweer explored the dark bottomless depths of mind and brain to know the unknown hidden in those depths. In the process He illuminated the noumenal aspect of the abysmal brain structure. The world is familiar with some attributes of human brain such as Instinct, Intellect, Common-sense and Intuition. Instinct determines certain ‘natural’ actions and tendencies of a being, such as sucking of milk by the calf of a cow immediately after birth. Intellect is used by a being in understanding and learning. Intelligence of a being is demonstrated in degree of grasping the subject fast or acting spontaneously. Intuition is still deeper and gets solutions for ticklish problems, such as finding the shape of the double helical structure of the DNA protein. Many scientists were blessed with this quality of the brain which appears very rare but can be developed.

The serious warrior for emancipation from karmic clutch, identified five layers of intelligence: 1. Instincts: These are the imprints of skills learned/acquired through previous chain of births and the karmic bondage created by the acts performed during those previous births. These influence the natural acts such as sucking milk by a calf of a cow shortly after birth without any training and getting angry on some occasion even if cause is puny. 2. Intellect: This indicates variable capacities of mental faculty. These include common-sense, talent, quick-grasp, wisdom, illumination etc. These involve thinking, curiosity, logic (information processing), memorization, deliberation, contemplation and so on. These help knowledge enhancement. 3. Intuition: This points to the innate ability little active in most cases and remains largely dormant. Creativity, imagination, genius, sixth-sense, perceptiveness, inner-intelligence etc. are its various shades. Michelangelo, Tansen, Khajuraho Temple sculptures, Walmiki Rishi, Panini, Patanali are some of the names which pop up in mind instantly. Many a scientist has received response from this faculty when anxiously desiring the answer to a long pestering problem. Shape of gene protein and benzene structure are the two examples immediately come to mind. 4. Insight: This innate ability is awakened after much spiritual effort. Sub-consciousness, latent-consciousness/unconsciousness, and super-consciousness are some of the stages in this category. When acquired these powers endow several different capabilities to the possessor. These include a class of Occult Techniques, Tele-Powers such as Clairvoyance, Extra-Sensory-Perception such as Mind-Reading. Here the strength of the soul becomes active as much of the chains created by karmic bondage are broken by the austere endeavor of the person. 5. Immanence: It is the state of being present as pure natural and permanent part of the virgin Soul Realm, Siddha-hood. Supra-consciousness and Trans-consciousness are the stages of this category. They represent the equivalent of Omniscience and Emancipation. This is attained respectively only after all the four fatal karmic bonds are severed (omniscient soul) or all eight karmic bonds are snapped (perfected soul).

Instinct, the natural aspect of a being is well-known even to science. But Bhagwan Mahaweer identified the links of the rebirth in those behaviors. Intuition is understood in its primitive form even by ordinary men. However, He expanded the boundaries of those uncharted crevices and established Illumination, e.g., ‘Telaesthesia’ (अवधिज्ञान), as the higher level of knowledge involving the Soul. And He went even further in illuminating nooks and corners of these crevices when He introduced the Principle of Distinction between the Soul and the Body, (भेद-विज्ञान). Beyond this Principle, His sharp vision led Him to the Insight of these hitherto concealed layers of the brain, Sub-conscious. His search into the fathomless expanse of the brain brought Him to the Realization of the Omniscience (सर्वज्ञता). And finally, He emancipated from the clutches of karmic bondage to reach Immanence (सिद्धत्व) in the heights beyond the Divinity.

During His journey into the pitch-black substructure of the brain, He laid bare several layers of consciousness and saw the minutely infinitesimal organism (निगोद) to possess consciousness in very small measure, proto-consciousness (आद्य-चेतन), much smaller than the lumen of a candle at 10 km distance measured by Modern Science. Through His own example, He also specified that the Meditation (सामायिक) helps in improving the human capacity in all their actions, physical, mental, emotional, psychological, psychical and even spiritual. The relaxed standing posture (कायोत्सर्ग), which He used for His entire austerity-period of 12+ years, is most suitable for optimum results. Further delving into these veiled realms, He identified, previously unknown layers, the Super-conscious (महा-चेतन) equivalent to Omniscience I (सयोगी-केवली), the Supra–conscious (दिव्य-चेतन) equivalent to Omniscience II (अयोगी-केवली) and the Trans-conscious (नित्य-चेतन) equivalent to the Emancipation (सिद्ध) stages of spiritual growth of a being.

The incisive insight that He acquired through His selfless austerities helped him perceive distinct degrees of capabilities of human intelligence. Besides comprehending the subtle natural and learned form of instincts, He learnt first-hand the growth potential of intellectual knowledge (mental memory: emotional, psychological, psychical [मति-ज्ञान]; auricular activity: auditional involving mental and other sense organ faculties [श्रुत-ज्ञान]). These are from the phenomenal domain, not involving soul directly; it is mostly physical/material. The far-sighted Himself refined His Telesthetic and Telepathic capabilities through His intense austerities. These capabilities do not require the use of senses directly but involve soul. Telaesthesia and Mind-Reading abilities are hybrid activities involving phenomenal domain as well as noumenal domain. These are mostly psychical/spiritual. The relentless ascetic finally achieved the consummation of all these abilities into one single all-inclusive capability called Omniscience (सर्वज्ञता). This is purely noumenal domain involving soul alone. It is purely soulic/spiritual.
